Hey kiddo! Guess what? The car shows are happening again! The one in Los Angeles in 2023 was really cool and had lots of new cars and SUVs to see. It may not have been as amazing as the one in Japan last month, but it was still worth paying attention to.
2025 Genesis GV80 And GV80 Coupe
The 2025 Genesis GV80 luxury SUV may not have many new features at first glance, but the Coupe model—a sleeker, more svelte version of the more upright, conventionally styled GV80—should be easy to spot. With a twin-turbocharged and electric-supercharged V-6 engine that isn’t available on the standard GV80 and the necessary fastback roofline to compete with coupe-SUVs like Mercedes-Benz’s GLE Coupe and BMW’s X6, Genesis adds even more unique touches to the GV80 Coupe.
2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
The L.A. auto show is Hyundai’s first American auto show debut for the Ioniq 5 N, which we have previously seen. When this electric hot hatchback (okay, SUV) goes on sale next year, Hyundai has revealed a slew of new details and features tailored to the American market, so it didn’t just rip off the exterior of a vehicle we had already seen.
2024 Hyundai Santa Fe
Not just the Ioniq 5 N is a new Hyundai making its second appearance in Los Angeles, but its first in the United States. Like with the Ioniq, Hyundai show-cased a tonne of market-specific details and specs for the all-new Santa Fe SUV at the event, including a first look at the new XRT off-road trim (pictured). With its incredibly stylish three-row crossover, Hyundai could become the next big SUV success story, similar to what its corporate sibling Kia did recently with the larger Telluride.
2024 Kia Sorento X-Pro
Alright, so it’s obvious that the L.A. show gave Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis—all under the same corporate umbrella—a platform to present some previously displayed international products to Americans for the first time in person. In addition, the updated Kia Sorento made its North American premiere here. However, there was a genuine first revelation that emerged: The larger Telluride X-Pro unveiled last year will be followed in the footsteps of the new 2024 Kia Sorento X-Pro, an off-road variant with larger tyres and raised suspension.
2025 Lucid Gravity SUV
Two years ago, our Car of the Year judges were wowed by Lucid’s ground-breaking Air sedan, which reset expectations for the driving range that electric vehicles could provide. Its remarkable efficiency and ingenious engineering were complemented by its attractive appearance, technology, and packaging. Even so, the Air is still only a four-door sedan, and Lucid would be better off breaking into the American auto market with an SUV that is more likely to be purchased. Presenting the Gravity, a taller, more marketed Lucid that combines Air technology with greater usefulness. More than 440 miles of range, fast charging times, and other features are all promised by Lucid; you can read all about how it compares to Tesla’s Model X and Rivian’s R1S.
2025 Subaru Forester
Even though the Subaru Forester may go unnoticed in America’s car landscape, there are many devoted owners of this right-sized, two-row SUV. The all-new Forester for 2025 maintains the characteristics that its aficionados adore, including its large glass area, control-tower visibility, tall seating height, and functionally boxy shape, and it lathers on more style than any previous Forester has ever worn. It’s arguable whether or not that style is appealing, but like other Subarus, it’s purposefully… strange, but this is a cautious, fruitful evolution for the Forester.
2025 Toyota Camry
The newest Toyota Camry was the star of the L.A. show, if there was one this year. Even though the number of cars on the road is decreasing, midsize sedans are still very profitable for Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia—the only other automakers still in business. This makes the redesigned Camry a very big deal. The new four-door made its public debut on the show floor, despite the fact that it officially debuted at an off-site event shortly before the actual auto show. The new Camry will only offer hybrid models.
